My Rebuttal to my sister’s post today on her blog http://www.oldgirlnewtricks.wordpress.com “I’m mad at my sister”
OK. The gloves are well and truly off!
My sister has opened a can of worms with her complaining about my complaining and she’s in trouble now.
Let it not be said that this little sister is shaking in her boots! (And it is SO cold here today that I am wearing boots!) She has thrown me a challenge and I am ready and raring to go.
OK so enough of the cliches (next she’ll be telling me off for overuse of them; she IS a teacher, after all)
Bermuda is a SUB tropical island in the Atlantic ocean.(Note the word SUB….) I would urge you to google us. You may be surprised to see how far north we actually are. The only reason we don’t get snow or freezing (per se) temperatures is because the Gulf Stream runs right by our shores. We are almost directly across from North Carolina. BUT and this is a huge BUT, it is chilly, very very chilly sometimes.
No, it’s NOT the uncivilized cold that you Northerners experience but when one touches the wall in one’s home and it feels WET and COLD and CLAMMY, rest assured, one feels wet and cold and clammy. We do not have heating in our homes. Many of us have heaters but if you knew how very expensive electricity is here, well that is just not an option except at bath time. We have fire places and use them frequently, ok so maybe only 3 or 4 times a year but…….
In fact, I was so impressed or should I say disturbed by my sister’s post today, that I left my snuggly warm bed and my sweetly sleeping husband to come into the ccccold den and address the issue of Cold in Bermuda…..
and you know what? I love a good cold Bermuda winter day…..cuz truth be told….we have way too much nice warm and too often HOT weather!
So, take that, OldGirlNewTricks!
And yea, Maureen, I still love you no matter what…………
LOL
I bet your cold Bermuda is very similar to my cold Phoenix. People don’t understand us! See, the problem lies in acclamation. If you are used to 100+ F temps and it dips down to 65 during the day…oh my and 38 at night….you simply freeze! My hands are shivering as I type this, and it’s 68 in my house. Stand strong sister, stand strong!
Ha ha Lori…..at last someone understands me and my ongoing battle for recognition regarding a cold winter’s day on the island!
I mean our grandkids all wear footie pjs on cold winter nights….I gotta say I am tempted to as well……
I am struggling to work up any sympathy! I look at your pictures…the beaches, your home, the lovely vista….My suggestion is to get some clothes from L. L. Bean! The footie pjs should work!
Why Kate, I thought we were friends….ha ha
Well in honesty it is a lovely 72 degrees here today and sunny. Still, be forewarned, on nice sunny winter days like this, it can be a real shock once that sun sets! Burrrrr…….electric blanket on tonight.
BBBRRRRRRRRR, it’s cold outside! The wind chill is a Big problem!
Love, M.
Well tomorrow it is getting colder here too AND gale force winds! Canada sends all that cold weather down here and though it warms enough not to snow, it is still chilly!
I think I am still on your side Helen, but let’s not forget that Maureen recently moved from balmy (by comparison) Toronto to cold, snowy Ottawa!!! We must spare some sympathy for her too!!!
Oh that is TRUE….no wonder she has got her panties in a twist! or should I say “bloomers”? ha ha
Seriously though, the wee little bit of real winter I experience in our trips abroad give me a deep respect for people living there. Its just crazy cold!
Who was it who lent you her yard duty coat when you recently visited Ottawa??? I didn’t want the delicate Bermuda flower to wilt!!! : )
Yes, it is true you lent me your warmest coat. You were just afraid of a huge lawsuit if I were to freeze to death whilst staying at your B & B & B!
ha ha ha
But at least you have to admit that I DO know cold weather when I experience it!
aha!!!
Helen, I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award.
LOL, you’re such a wonderful family, and this leaves me totally *warm*hearted, despite of the (icky!) cold we currently have in Germany … Brrrrrrrrrrr! 😯 😀
Oh yeah, SUB tropical, I totally see that. 😉
Have a nice swim in your boots! LOL
